The Personification of Animals
'MONSTXRZ REBORN'
My project examines how animals are often personified and judged through human moral frameworks. Predatory behaviour is frequently interpreted as malicious, with animals seen as intentionally targeting smaller or more vulnerable prey. In reality, these actions are driven by instinct and survival, rather than cruelty or moral intent. There is no inherent evil in these behaviours, only biological necessity.
Through sculpture, I aim to present these natural actions while subtly introducing traces of human emotion, such as guilt or care, in contexts where they might not typically be recognised. This creates a tension between instinct and imposed morality.
The project also considers how humans are dehumanised for expressing strong emotions, particularly those viewed as negative, like anger or jealousy. This idea extends into my illustration work, where a more abstract approach depicts a monstrous human figure overshadowed by a looming beast, reflecting the internalisation of these judgments.
