A Study of Persecuted and Revered Wise Folk
'TIMBLE LORE FOLK ART'
This collection brings together a series of works exploring sites, beliefs, and histories shaped by tension between reverence and violence. Drawing on locations such as Glastonbury and Pendle Hill, the pieces reflect landscapes marked by both spiritual significance and persecution, particularly in relation to witch trials and religious upheaval. Natural materials and forms evoke sacred spaces, from oak groves and mistletoe linked to Druid practices to circular stone arrangements referencing henges and ancient ritual sites.
Across the works, themes of power, control, and injustice are examined, alongside the quieter persistence of resilience and renewal. Symbolic elements suggest both oppression and its lasting impact, including trauma handed through generations. At the same time, there is an underlying suggestion that despite concealment and manipulation, acts of goodness and resistance endure. The collection weaves together folklore, history, and material symbolism to highlight the complex interplay between harm, belief, and survival.
